The art of Connection
Today I’m going to share with you one thing that was a GAME CHANGER for me in my journey. How many times do you hear about successful people and think “I could never be like them.” Whether it’s a celebrity, millionaire, or even just a coworker. This is the narrative we tell ourselves.
But the reality is that we could be like them. We could study their habits and come up with patterns that aided to their success. Then we could put our spin on it and replicate it. This is what people are doing every day on social media. One of the things that you’ll discover all successful people are doing is this. Creating genuine connection with both their target audience and peers in their field.
Networking is a never-fail option for success. Every time you listen to a podcast with a guest, what do you do? Look them up. If you see a stitched video on social media? Look them up. If you notice someone contributes a clever comment in the comment section? Look them up. And if your favorite creator or celebrity trusts them, you immediately trust them. For someone who does not have the platform and audience built yet, this can be a huge “fast forward" on your journey.
Whether you are an artist, entrepreneur, or influencer, think about your target audience. If you don’t know who your target audience is yet, consider diving in to a course that could help you navigate this. After spending thousands on high ticket coaching to help me on social media and getting nowhere, this is the one course that has actually helped me find breakthrough. Back to that target audience. If you have your target audience figured out, next you’ll want to find where they are hanging out. That’s where you’ll want to go be in those places. Interacting with them.
In my days of being in high ticket coaching (with legit names who were good at what they did), we were also taught to interact with people and network with people. It never seemed to work. You know why? There was something missing. These coaches were SO transactional. They would interact in order to receive. On the outside you wouldn’t see this, but once you sit under their teaching you’d quickly learn that they were only interacting to get more money and more reach. But wait, isn’t that what you’re telling us to do, Katherine?
Yes and no. You see the difference is that these folks were using connection as a transaction. What I’m encouraging you to do is to build genuine community and network. It will only be transactional if you don’t want to be around others. In which case, I would ask you “Why you are doing what you’re doing?” When you are truly in the right niche doing the right thing, you’ll love the people who are in it. And if you have the right niche and you still just want to take from people….perhaps you need to do some heart work before starting.
Love the people around you the best you know how. Invest in others and watch your audience grow. When you sow kindness and love, you’ll see a beautiful harvest. If you try to network and engage just to receive… You’ll get to your monetary goals and find people no longer want to listen. Because you’ve shown your true colors. And now the audience you built, is just a shell of what it should be.
